Under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the meeting of the commodity and service tax (GST) council was held on July 27, in which a big decision was taken for the auto sector. At the meeting, the rate of GST on electric vehicles was reduced from 12 percent to 5 percent.
GST New Rule
In fact, the Modi government has made a major cut in GST for promoting electric vehicles in the country. Electric carts will be cheaper by cutting GST, and in this episode, the veteran automobile company Tata Motors has cut prices of its electric vehicles (EV) Tiger EVs up to Rs 80,000 on Thursday.

Shailesh Chandra, president (Electric Mobility Business and Corporate Strategy), Tata Motors, said, “As per the recent announcement made by the government, the rate of GST on all electric-powered vehicles has been reduced from 12 percent to 5 percent. Due to this, the prices of Tata Motors ‘electric vehicles have been reduced to Rs 80,000, which will be effective from August 2019.’
