Not a cricket fan but Shastri, he was considered a suitable contender for the coach
New Delhi: After a long time, the Cricket Advisory Committee appointed by the BCCI appointed Ravi Shastri as the coach of the team. His tenure was for the ICC World Cup 2019, which was extended to 45 days for the West Indies tour.
In this race to become the coach of Team India, there was a tough competition between three people, including former Australian cricketer Tom Moody and New Zealand captain Mike Hewson in the 2015 World Cup semi-finals. Not a cricket fan but Shastri, he was considered a suitable contender for the coach
Kapil Dev, who is heading the Cricket Advisory Committee, announcing Shastri’s name, said that Moody was third in the race to become coach, while Hessen was second. Describing Ravi Shastri as number one, he was appointed as the new coach.
Shastri may have got the reins of Team India as a coach, but cricket fans are seeing a lot of resentment about it. People believe that the decision to make Ravi Shastri as coach was taken under pressure, while New Zealand’s Mike Hewson was the most suitable option for this task.
Expressing their anger, the fans have reacted in various ways on social media. Mike Hewson started coaching at the age of 22. Born in Dunedin, New Zealand, Hewson worked for Otago cricket for nearly 15 years. During this, he yearned to win the match, ending the 20-year drought of the Otago team and got him the title.
He then became Kenya’s coach after Kenya’s poor performance in the 2011 World Cup. However he resigned in May 2012 and became the New Zealand coach in July 2012, replacing John Wright. Mike Hewson was the coach of the New Zealand team for nearly 6 years and during his tenure the team reached the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup.
