History of World Post Day
On the same day in the year 1874, 22 countries signed an agreement to form the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. At the conference held in Tokyo, Japan in the year 1969, this day was announced to be selected as World Post Day. On 1 July 1876, India was the first Asian country to become a member of the Universal Postal Union. India has been a member of the First Division on the basis of population and international mail traffic. The Universal Postal Union became a specialized agency of the United Nations in 1947 after the formation of the United Nations.
Postal service is joining new technology
In the changing technological era, postal systems around the world have connected themselves with new technical services while improving the existing services and have started express services to deliver the postal, parcel, letters to the destination. Number 1 to 8 are geographical areas and number 9 has been allocated to the Army Post Service. The first number of the pin code indicates the area second number sub-region, the third number refers to the district. The last three numbers indicate the specific post office in that district.
