Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti 2019: Why did Maharishi Valmiki written the Ramayana: Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti 2019, Date and History: Maharishi Valmiki was born on the full moon of Ashwin month which is also known as Sharad Purnima. This year Valmiki Jayanti is on 13 October (Sunday) according to the English date. Maharishi Valmiki is counted among the greatest sages of ancient times.

There is a description in the Puranas that he received the title of Maharishi on the strength of his hard penance. He has also been called Adi Kavi. The epic composed by Maharishi Valmiki has the status of the oldest poetry in the world. But, what was the reason that Maharishi Valmiki had to write the epic of Ramayana? Let’s know this further.

According to the Ramayana, once Maharishi Valmiki went to the banks of the Tamsa River. Here they saw a pair of a cranch (stork) bird making love among themselves. When the pair of the crounch was in love, a hunter attacked the male bird and killed it. Due to which the female bird started mourning. Seeing this, Maharishi Valmiki became very angry and suddenly a verse from his mouth came out. When Valmiki reached his ashram, at that time his attention was on the mantra that suddenly came out.

Then Brahma ji came in Valmiki ji’s hut and he said- “The sentence that has come out of your mouth is a verse.” Such a sentence has come out of my mouth only because of my inspiration. Therefore, describe the character of Shri Ram in the form of Shloka. Thus, inspired by the order of Brahma, Maharishi Valmiki composed the epic Ramayana.

Maharishi Valmiki’s childhood name was Ratnakar. As a child, he was taken by a Bhil and took care of him. When Ratnakar grew up, he too started looting for the sake of livelihood as per the practice prevalent in the Bhil society. One day suddenly Narada ji was also taken hostage. Later, with the inspiration of Narada, he gave up the work of looting and started doing austerities. After doing penance for years, he became aware and later composed Ramayana in Sanskrit. Which is still known as Valmiki Ramayana.
