Mamata Banerjee: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Twitter Reaction on NRC Final List For Assam: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the NRC final list a ‘failure’ and said that it has exposed all those who are trying to gain a ‘political advantage’ by taking it. Banerjee also expressed concern over the large number of Bengalis being ‘excluded’ from the final list of NRC. He wrote on Twitter, ‘The failure of NRC has exposed all those who are trying to take political advantage from it. They have to give a lot of answers to the country. The Chief Minister said, ‘This happens when something is done for the wrong purpose rather than the good of the society and the larger interest of the country’.
The updated final list of the much awaited NRC in Assam was released on Saturday. Over 19 lakh applicants failed to make their place in NRC. Banerjee said, “My sympathies are with all those, especially a large number of Bengali-speaking brothers and sisters, who have suffered due to this futile process.”
The state coordinator office of NRC said in a statement that 3,30,27,661 people had applied to join NRC. Of these, 3,11,21,004 people have been included in the NRC on the basis of documents and 19,06,657 people have been excluded. People whose names have been excluded from NRC can file an appeal against it within 120 days in foreign tribunal. If they are not satisfied with the decisions of the Tribunal, then they can approach the High Court and the Supreme Court.
