BSNL, MTNL employees could not pay salaries in July, Modi Government, 850 crores salary expenditure: The July salary of BSNL, MTNL i.e. BSNL and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited 1.98 lakh employees was not received. An officer of the union has given this information. The expenditure on salary of BSNL employees is 750-850 crores.
75% of BSNL earnings goes to the salaries. Whereas, private company Airtel spends less than three percent of its earnings on employees’ salaries. The company has only 20 thousand employees.
This is the second time this year that these employees have not received the salary. Nor has the assurance that the salary will be for the time being. This is the first time since Narendra Modi became the government again. Abhimanyu, the news agency PTI has said that salary is usually given on the last date of the month, but This did not happen in July. There is no information that when the salary will come.
High Losses on BSNL and MTNL
BSNL and MTNL are going through heavy losses. In February this year, the employees of these two corporations were not able to get the salary even in February. The salary of February could be given in mid-March. 1.76 lakh in BSNL and 22,000 people in MTNL. Their salary is 750-850 crores (BSNL) and Rs. 160 crores (MTNL) expenditure every month.
There is no comment about issuing salary on behalf of BSNL Chairman and CMD PK Purvar. Mr. Sunil Kumar, Human Resource and Enterprise Business Director, MTNL, definitely said that the company is engaged in outstanding recovery, after which the salary will be released. Kumar is also looking at the work of MTNL CMD.
Both BSNL and MTNL are in heavy losses. The government is trying to unite both. However, Sebastian K., Secretary General of Communications Corporation Executives Association. Apart from the merger, the options like VRS (voluntary retirement), sale of 4G airwaves, income from land and towers have emerged in order to recover them from the deficit. In 2018-19, the loss of BSNL reached Rs 14,202 crore, while revenue declined to 19,308 crore. According to the information given in Parliament, BSNL’s deficit in 2015-16 was 4,859 crores. In the subsequent two years, it was Rs 4,793 and Rs 7,993 crore respectively.
