Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi recommends Justice SA Bobde as next CJI: Justice SA Babde has been named as the next CJI by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The letter was sent to the center on Friday, officials said. In his letter to the Union Law and Justice Department, SA Babdee was appointed as the next CJI in terms of seniority. Justice Ranjan Gogoi was appointed as the 46th CJI on October 3 last year. His term ends Nov. 17. Against this backdrop, Justice Ranjan Gogoi wrote a letter proposing the name of Babde.
If Justice Bobde is named, he will serve as chief justice for 17 months until April 3, 2021. Justice NV Ramana, Justice Yu Lalit and Justice Dewey Chandrachud are in a row in terms of seniority. The letter sent by Justice Gogoi is now being considered by law experts and handed over to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister will then advise the President about the post. According to official appointment, the senior judge will be the next Chief Justice out of the judges available in the Supreme Court.
