Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) is an intergovernmental organization with 194 member countries including India. The headquarters of Interpol is located in Lyon, France. It was established in 1923 as the International Criminal Police Commission and started calling itself Interpol in 1956. India became its member in the year 1949. This year, the General Assembly concluded in Chile on Friday. India won the voting held for the General Assembly on the closing occasion.
After this it was decided that Interpol’s 91st General Assembly would be held in 2022 at the Platinum Jubilee of India’s independence. CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla proposed to host India during his brief address at the ongoing 88th Interpol General Assembly in Santiago, Chile.
