Rajnath Singh says in Pokhran our nuclear policy is No First Use What happens in future depends on circumstances:

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh reached Jaisalmer on Friday to take stock of the military preparations. He was welcomed by General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Army Staff here. The defense minister reviewed the military preparations of the army and the Border Security Force on the western border of India.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in Pokhran on Friday that so far our policy regarding nuclear war has not been used before. Now what happens in the future depends on the situation at that time.

Amid growing tension with Pakistan, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday indicated that India may also change its policy on non-use of nuclear weapons first. The defense minister said in Pokhran on Friday, “So far our policy regarding nuclear armament has not been put to use first.” Now what happens in the future depends on the situation at that time.

Rajnath Singh made this statement in Pokhran. This is the same place where India conducted 5 nuclear tests in 1998 under the leadership of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The special thing is that today is the first death anniversary of former Prime Minister Vajpayee.

The Defense Minister said these things after paying tribute to Vajpayee in Pokhran today. After paying tribute to Vajpayee, Rajnath Singh said, “It is a coincidence that today is the first death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and I am in Jaisalmer.” I felt that I should pay tribute to him from the land of Pokhran.

No First Use (NFU) means not using a nuclear weapon until the opponent first strikes it. India adopted the policy of not using nuclear weapons any further, after Pokharan-2 in 1998. Prior to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also said that India will not use nuclear weapons against any enemy.
