According to the news agency PTI, Bhavani Shankar’s father Damodar Chani was also an officer. He died on Tuesday at the age of 98. During this time Bhavani Shankar was on duty, he was looking after the arrangements related to Corona in the Millennium City of the city. During this time, instead of coming home, he continued in his work.
COVID-19 spokesperson of Odisha government, Subroto Bagchi, has praised the Collector of Cuttack and said that he preferred the public service even when there was a time of mourning in the family. Bagchi said that he has set a great example.

Bagchi said that Bhavani Shankar says, “My father used to say that unfinished work is no work. It is the words of father that gave him the strength to keep me busy in completing my work even in such mourning time”.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also expressed deep condolences on the demise of the Cuttack District Magistrate’s father, and also praised Bhavani Shankar.
