According to the Brazilian space agency The National Institute for Special Research (INPE), Amazon has had the highest number of fire incidents this year. The agency said that between January and August, about 73 thousand fire incidents have been reported, which was 39,759 in the whole of 2018. Earlier in 2013, there were record incidents of fire.
Experts claim that the incidence of fire is increasing due to deforestation in Brazil. Environmental activists blame Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro for the current situation. He says that Brazilian presidents appease people in timber smugglers and illegal mining, adding to the plight of the forests.
