Pakistan would not have been born if Veer Savarkar was the first Prime Minister: Uddhav Thackeray
Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray says that if Veer Savarkar had been the Prime Minister of this country, Pakistan would not have been born. He also demanded the country’s highest award Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar and said that our government is the government of Hindutva. Pakistan would not have been born if Veer Savarkar was the first Prime Minister: Uddhav Thackeray
Thackeray said this on the occasion of the release of an autobiography ‘Savarkar: Echoes from a Forgotten Past’. He said that Savarkar should be honored with Bharat Ratna. We do not deny the work done by Gandhi and Nehru, but the country saw more than two families descend on the political scene.

Thackeray said in his speech, “He would have no objection to calling Nehru a heroic if he had been like Savarkar within the jail for 14 minutes.” Savarkar had been in jail for 14 years.
During this, the Shiv Sena chief took a dig at Rahul Gandhi and said that former Congress president Gandhi should read the new book and should know more about Savarkar’s works. Let me tell you that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had said in an election rally that Veer Savarkar had apologized to the British for getting freedom from prison. Veer Savarkar is believed to have popularized the term “Hindutva”.
