The Pm Of India, At Whose Behest, The Whole Country Started Fasting For A Time : 2 October 2019 marks the birth anniversary of India’s second Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Living a simple life, Shastri ji was a skilled-headed Gandhian leader. Out of a poor family and the efficient leadership of the largest democracy, Shastri ji has told the world so much that if a person has self-confidence, he can achieve any destination. But do you know that Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, while being his Prime Minister, appealed to the whole country to observe a fast one day a week. So let’s know: –
After the demise of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, there was only one question in the mind of the whole country, who will be the next PM now? Lal Bahadur Shastri became the second PM of the country after two weeks of Nehru’s death. During his prime ministership, Lal Bahadur Shastri brought the country out of many crises. In 1965, the Indo-Pak war broke out. At that time, the command of the country was in the hands of Lal Bahadur Shastri. There was a shortage of food grains in the country during the war. The country was undergoing a severe starvation problem. During that crisis, Lal Bahadur Shastri stopped taking his salary. He also refused to come to work at his house, and started doing all the household work himself.
The country was struggling with food crisis. The US also threatened to stop the export of food grains to India. After this, Shastri ji urged the people of the country to observe a fast once a week. Not only this, he presented an example to the countrymen, saying that in his family, “The stove will not burn in the evening for one week from tomorrow.” His announcement had such an effect that it was followed for a few days even in most restaurants and hotels.
