Politics heated up on Sidhu, speculation about returning to BJP and meeting Amit Shah increased: Punjab’s politics has been rekindled over former Punjab minister and Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu. After the resignation of Captain Amarinder Singh cabinet, sudden speculation and discussions about Sidhu sitting quiet increased political stir in the state.
Discussions of his preparations to join the BJP and meeting with BJP national president Amit Shah and Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal continued on social media throughout the day on Wednesday. Due to this, the Congress leaders also appeared in a dilemma.
Significantly, Navjot Singh Sidhu has been confined to his house in Amritsar for the last about six months. Now he has once again come into the limelight with these speculations. There is speculation that Navjot Sidhu has met Amit Shah. However, neither BJP nor Navjot Singh Sidhu confirmed their stand for this alleged meeting.
BJP did not confirm, Sidhu did not even clarify stance; SAD told the rumor
There are also discussions about Sukhbir Badal being present in this meeting. Shiromani Akali Dal leaders have called it a rumor. A senior party leader said that this can only happen when the BJP decides that it will no longer go ahead with the SAD, as Navjot Singh Sidhu will not join the BJP for just 23 seats. Please tell that there is a figure of thirty-six between Navjet Sidhu and the head of Siyad Sukhbir Badal. This has also been a major reason for Sidhu leaving the BJP.
BJP is pressurizing more seats
The Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party have an alliance on 117 seats in Punjab. Of this, the Bharatiya Janata Party contests only 23 seats. Since the last Lok Sabha election, the BJP has kept pressure on the Akali Dal to get more seats. The state unit of the party also wants the BJP to break away from SAD and contest elections and form government in the state on its own like Haryana and Maharashtra.
It is said that the party is looking for a Jat Sikh face who can lead the party in the state. The party had a similar face to Sidhu, but due to his Akali Dal leaders Sukhbir Badal and Bikram Majithia not joining him, he left the BJP and joined Congress. In the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress managed to capture 77 seats, but Navjot Sidhu could not last long in the government.
Sidhu had lost his head in Bathinda
Navjot Sidhu’s position weakened further due to the Congress’ nationwide defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. The head of the necklace also blew his head in Bathinda. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh gave him the electricity department by taking a department like local body which he did not accept and he resigned from the post of minister and sat in his house.
Sidhu has not spoken to any media personnel for the last six months. There have been reports of meetings with senior RSS leaders in between. For this reason, when the news of a meeting with Amit Shah came, it is seen by associating it with the same meeting with the leaders of the Sangh. If Navjot Sidhu returns to BJP, it will be a major stir in Punjab politics.
