IND vs SA: Indian team is not going on tour to South Africa! BCCI has not accepted

Cricket Board of India (BCCI) treasurer Arun Dhumal denied the claim of Cricket South Africa (CSA), saying that the board has not made any commitment to visit South Africa in August, only its possibilities have been discussed. CSA Director Graeme Smith and Acting Chief Executive Jock Fall had said on Thursday that the BCCI had agreed to tour South Africa for the three-match T20 International series, but Dhumal denied them.

Dhumal said that when South Africa’s tour of India was canceled due to Corona virus infection, we had said that the Indian team would try to visit South Africa. However, we never made any commitment to visit in August. The senior BCCI official clarified that unless the government approves international travel, the BCCI will not be in a position to commit to any country.

Dhumal said that right now, we cannot even decide whether we can send the team to Sri Lanka and then Zimbabwe (T20 series) in July. Both these visits are part of our FTP program. We still do not know what will be the situation after two months. So how can we commit to South Africa tour? When Dhumal was asked about CSA Cricket Director Sourav Ganguly’s support for the post of ICC President, he said it would be good for global cricket if an Indian held the post. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the commencement of domestic flights from May 25.

Dhumal said that the board could explore the option of a safe place for the national camp. If it cannot be held at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, Dharamshala can be a good option. There is also a facility of indoor stadium in Dharamshala. He said that why this is my state association, in such a situation, I cannot advocate it, but after exploring the options, if the BCCI feels that there can be a camp in Dharamshala, then we are ready for every kind of arrangement. Even the pavilion hotel in which the Indian team stops is also part of the HPCA (Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association).
