India’s new tennis sensation Ankita Raina has crossed her first-round hurdle at the last Grand Slam US Open of the year. He defeated the ninth seeded player and ranked 80 above himself in the first round of the Women’s Singles Qualifier. Ankita defeated Belgium’s Yeline Bonavantcher 6–1, 1–6, 6–2. Bonaventure is currently the world’s number 114 female tennis player, while Ankita has a world ranking of 194.
However, Ankita still has to cross the second and third round of qualifying rounds to make it to the main draw. Ankita will face Denisa Alertova of the Czech Republic in the second round of the qualifiers. Alertova defeated American Racey Brantmeier 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the second round. His current world ranking is 279. However, he made it to the top-100 in 2016. She was ranked 55th in the WTA rankings released on March 21, 2016.
