Samsung launches world’s first 108MP smartphone camera sensor in partnership with Xiaomi: South Korean technology giant Samsung in partnership with Chinese handset maker Xiaomi on Monday launched the 108MP mobile image sensor – ‘Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX’. This is the world’s first image sensor, which has a resolution of more than 100 million pixels.

The company said in a statement that, with this latest edition, Samsung has expanded its image sensor portfolio to 108MP from the recently launched ultra-high 64MP. This resolution is comparable to a high-end DSLR camera. It has also been said by the company that this sensor has been designed in collaboration with Xiaomi and Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX is the first mobile sensor, packed with more than 100 million pixels and will provide better color reproduction output.
This new sensor will absorb more light in low-light settings and will get 27MP bright image with the help of its pixel-merging tetracell technology. For advanced filming, the HMX will have video frames support with 30 frames-per-second (fps) and up to 6K resolution with no field-of-view loss.
In 2013, Samsung first introduced ISOCELL technology. Later, on the basis of this technology, Samsung introduced the industry’s first 1.0um-pixel image sensor in 2015 and in 2017 the company launched the 0.9-pixel sensor. In June last year, Samsung introduced the upgraded pixel isolation technology ISOCELL Plus.
