Today all the employees of BSNL will be on strike, unhappy over not getting September salary:
BSNL employees will be on strike today to protest against non-payment of salary for the month of September. BSNL employees have called for this strike under the banner of All Unions and Associates of BSNL (AUAB). 10 unions of BSNL are going on a one-day hunger strike on Friday.
Let me tell you, the state-run telecom company BSNL is struggling with poor financial condition. Just yesterday, on behalf of the government, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Modi government is trying to overcome the problems faced by running this company.
Around 1 lakh 58 thousand employees of BSNL have still not received their salary for the month of September. With this, about 22 thousand employees of MTNL have not received the salary of September as well as August. However, MTNL employees postponed their sit-in protest after this announcement.
Earlier, on behalf of the government, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that whenever any natural calamity like flood, storm comes to any part of the country, BSNL is the company that offers its services for free. 75% of the company’s earnings are used to pay salaries of employees. Other companies spend only five to 10 percent on this item.
BSNL has not yet given salary of September for its employees. However the company has said that it will pay the salary before Diwali. Let me tell you, the Finance Ministry is not in favor of running BSNL and MTNL and has recommended to close them. On the other hand, the Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Home Minister Amit Shah has approved the Revival Plan of both the companies. The Finance Ministry has expressed its disagreement on 80 points.
